
Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey) as the daughter of Josephine, who is an engineer and John Ormond. Ormond is the third of five children born to her parents. Her first performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted the attention of many. Then, she went to Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a year in college in art, she moved to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated in 1988. Ormond first appeared on British TV in the series Traffik The story revolves around the illicit drug trade that stretches from the far East to the streets of Europe. Ormond played the drug addicted daughter of the lead character, who was a Home Office minister in the UK government who was fighting heroin importation. It was the first time Ormond had a role and was praised by the critics as a success.
